Two generations of dysfunction collide. Sanctuary was written and directed by first time filmmaker, Leonard Carillo with an extremely low budget, but produced high quality results as an end product. Gary Tomsic was the director of photography on the project as well as co-producer. "Sanctuary was a statement for me." states Carillo. "I wanted to say with a strong voice that most of the time people just don't get along, even family members."
The film starred veteran stage and film actor, Charlie Holliday as the cantankerous old man Jake Snow. Jake was a person that one would avoid at all costs. He smelled, his dispassion was of despicable magnitude. Ashley Williams who played her heart out as the young granddaughter. Having to deal with the stench of life that was thrown at her. Chain smoking Jake loved his TV, obsessed with playing the lottery, and forever challenged with the situation of being strapped with raising his granddaughter was more than the old man could handle. A heart condition revealed itself after winning a 40 million dollar lottery jackpot. The excitement was short lived. |
